About 15 years ago, Sanika pods made of GRP were installed at the Humanitas hospital in Milan. The application of prefabricated bathrooms offers benefits such as a shorter construction time, a reliable customer service and a proper installation. The Saniflex bathroom in particular is very durable as well as sanitary and easy to clean due to its smooth surfaces. These benefits provide positive effects regarding costs over the years of usage. An internal survey, carried out by the management of the Humanitas hospital, confirms the aforementioned positive (cost) advantages. A traditionally built bathroom has been compared to a Sanika prefabricated bathroom and the respective maintenance and repair costs over the last 10 years have been calculated. The building services department has provided us with the internal survey on 340 bathrooms. Repairs/maintenance Humanitas hospital costs traditional bathrooms costs Sanika bathroom Repointing of the bathrooms 1,000 EUR/year 0 EUR/year Annually sanitary coat of paint 3,000 EUR/year 0 EUR/year Tile repair and replacement 3,000 EUR/year 0 EUR/year Full retiling due to the unavailability of the former tiles on the market 6,000 EUR/year 0 EUR/year Commissioning of a plumber due to water losses and the respective organisation and coordination of other craftsmen like masons, tilers, painters (losses resulting from the temporary unavailability of the room are included) 70,000 EUR/year included in the annually maintenance charge Electrical work included included Overall costs last 10 years 83,000 EUR/year 0 EUR/year
